My nylon tail bag - originally a range bag from Bulldog - was fading fast from black to a sick purple tint.

Experimented with a variety of inks, dyes, even tried a black felt pen. Nothing works on nylon (or polyester), so I started drilling around the web looking for suggestions. All led to using Rit Dye dissolved in a vat of boiling water (mostly for clothing), but that's just not an option.

One useful - and true - solution was to use a spray-on waterproofing like Scotchgard to darken faded nylon. A friend treated his black nylon jacket with Scotchgard and it came out looking quite good.

As I was about to go get some, it dawned on me that I already had some Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastics, and sure enough it bonds to nylon. Masked-off patches, straps and hardware, then squirted the thing. Turned out like new, dried quick, thin coat, no ill effects. Worked so well, I thought I'd pass it along.

I've also got one of those sick purple tinted bags, I'll look into that option, cheers.

Dags hasn't been here in nearly 6 months, hope he's high and dry out there.....

FWIW, just gave my tailbag a quick touchup with this stuff after posting in 2018.
Safe to say it works, and works well.
Replacing the sun-bleached USA patch. Bag was fine, just turning a bit gray on top.
